How do you find PHP error logs on a hosting account?

Check the hosting control panel for an Errors, Logs, or Metrics section. It may show recent web server and PHP messages or provide a path to a domain-specific log. File Manager can also contain files named error_log inside the document root or application directories, depending on the server configuration.

WordPress can write application errors to wp-content/debug.log when debugging and debug logging are configured. Use this temporarily on a production site and keep error display disabled so visitors do not see file paths or sensitive details. Remove or restrict a large debug log after the problem is solved.

Match the timestamp in the log with the exact action that failed. Time zones may differ between the server, WordPress, and your local computer. Read the earliest relevant fatal error first because later warnings can be consequences of the initial failure. The message usually names a file, line number, and error type.

If no log appears, ask the host where PHP sends errors for that domain and PHP handler. Reproduce the issue once after logging is enabled, then download the relevant section. Do not publish an entire log without review, since it can contain usernames, paths, query details, email addresses, or request data.
